What is a Discount Calculator?
A discount calculator answers two questions that look similar but run in opposite directions. Forwards: given an original price and a discount, what will I pay and what do I save? Backwards: given the original price and the sale price, what discount is that really? Shops advertise the first and rely on you not checking the second β which is where the interesting comparisons live.
Why Stacked Discounts Are Smaller Than They Look
"20% off, plus an extra 20% at checkout" is not 40% off. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price, so 100 becomes 80, then 64 β a total discount of 36%. The gap widens as the discounts get bigger: 50% plus 50% is 75% off, not free. This calculator applies the second discount correctly and shows you the effective total.
- Enter the discount as a percentage or a flat amount
- Stack a second checkout coupon and see the true effective discount
- Handle VAT-inclusive Saudi retail prices or add VAT on top
- Multiply across a quantity to see basket-level savings
- Reverse mode: get the discount percentage from two prices
- Switch between 20 currencies

The Discount Formulas
Sale price = Original Γ (1 β Discount Γ· 100)
Discount % = (Original β Sale) Γ· Original Γ 100
Original price = Sale Γ· (1 β Discount Γ· 100)
Two stacked discounts = 1 β (1 β dβ) Γ (1 β dβ)
The last formula is the one worth memorising. It explains why 30% plus 20% is 44% off, and why no combination of discounts below 100% will ever give something away for free.
Discounts and VAT in Saudi Arabia
ZATCA requires consumer prices in Saudi Arabia to be displayed inclusive of the 15% VAT, so the price on the tag is already the gross amount. A discount therefore reduces the VAT-inclusive figure, and the VAT falls proportionally with it β there is nothing extra to add at checkout. That is why the "price includes VAT" option is on by default. Uncheck it only for business-to-business quotes, where prices are commonly quoted net.
Is a Bigger Percentage Always a Better Deal?
No β and this is where the reverse mode earns its place. A 50% discount on an inflated "was" price can leave you paying more than a 25% discount on a fairly priced item. Compare final prices, not percentages, and use the reverse calculator to check whether an advertised discount matches the actual gap between the two prices shown.

β Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a discounted price?
Multiply the original price by (1 β discount Γ· 100). A 25% discount on SAR 499 gives 499 Γ 0.75 = SAR 374.25.
How do I find the discount percentage from two prices?
Subtract the sale price from the original, divide by the original, and multiply by 100. From 499 down to 349 is a 30.06% discount.
How do stacked discounts work?
A second discount applies to the already-reduced price, not the original. 20% off followed by another 20% off is a 36% total discount, not 40%.
Do Saudi prices already include VAT?
Yes. Displayed retail prices in Saudi Arabia are VAT-inclusive, so the discount applies to the VAT-inclusive figure. Keep the 'price includes VAT' option checked for Saudi shopping.
What is the effective discount?
It is the total saving expressed as a percentage of the original price, which is the number that matters when you compare offers with different structures.
How do I calculate the original price from a sale price?
Divide the sale price by (1 β discount Γ· 100). A sale price of 300 after 25% off means the original was 300 Γ· 0.75 = 400.
Can I calculate savings across several items?
Yes. Enter a quantity and the calculator shows both the per-item price and the total price and saving for the whole basket.
Is a bigger percentage always the better deal?
Not always. Compare the final price, not just the percentage β a 50% discount on an inflated original can cost more than 30% off a fair price.
Does it handle amount-off discounts?
Yes. Switch the discount type to 'Amount off' to enter a flat value, and the calculator shows the equivalent percentage.
Is this discount calculator free?
Yes. It is completely free and runs entirely in your browser with nothing stored.
